Parent - Infant Program
The Program:
Consultation services are provided to parents and teachers
to assure visually impaired children will have the best opportunity to
function as successfully as possible in their sighted environment.
Home visitation is provided so that families may have guidance
in teaching, working, and playing with their visually impaired child.
Resources are offered to supplement a child's present program by providing
information, practical suggestions, and assistance in determining appropriate
objectives, goals and activities.
A toy lending library is available for parents to receive appropriate
toys on loan for use with visually impaired children.
A resource library is available for parents to obtain information
in the form of books, magazines, video or audio tapes.
Referral assistance to other specialized services is available
when needed.
A parent's support group meets monthly to help parents share experiences
and information, focus on feelings, and become more active participants
in their children's programs.
Parental counseling can be offered when a parent's needs are greater
than the support group can provide.
Orientation and Mobility consultation is available to assess a
child's ability to travel safely and confidently in his or her environment.
Services can be offered at home, day care, or pre-school
within the Tri-State area depending on the needs of the family.
To be considered for services, a child should be between the ages of
birth and five years and the child's vision must be impaired.
